That aspect of the overlapping patterns that fit together? Wow, it's present! I wouldn't say Tricot moves into the psychedelic realm much. But they still are another band that fits "that genre" in my head. And are so in Circle 1. They are said to mix pop rock & math rock styles. That fits, though there is much more. Their material has a bouncy feel, yet mixes in complex rhythms, non-standard time signatures, and interesting progressions.
It's strange, I find that I enjoy them most when I can sustain both getting lost in the patterns and riding the more surface qualities. At first that was hard, but the more I listen to them, the easier it's become and the more I enjoy them.
I read that they changed their drummer after their first few releases. It was said to be because of "musical differences". I kind of understand, one can hear it in the music. What I'm about to describe could also be seen as a maturing and mellowing as we all age. What is it already?!?! Their earlier stuff has a bit more aggressive, intense and "heavier" feel to it. They are ultimately the poppy/mathy band throughout.
In a meta way I find them simiar to Rush; not in a music style way though! They are like Rush, to me, for the quality that the mix technical depth and still "sound like" different styles. Another thing is that I can't say a single song is bad; though I didn't think so at first. For them, not Rush! 😜
Anyways, that is my experience/perception of them. In the end, they are like a kaleidoscope of music with their overlapping patterns that I really enjoy.
On a practical thread, I've found finding their stuff difficult. In that vein, there are number of locations on bandcamp.com for them:
